Society Purpose

The Molokai Humane Society is committed to building humane and caring bonds between the people and animals of Molokai through education, advocacy and providing humane sheltering of animals and veterinary care.

Molokai has many animals in need; a large stray and feral population and many domestic pets and farm animals. Comprised primarily of volunteers and 5 staff members, the Molokai Humane Society has very limited resources and many challenges facing us.

We are excited to have a clinic near Ho’olehua which is housed in a converted sea container. We hope you will come visit us!

Veterinarian

Dr Eric Jayne

My name is Eric Jayne and I am happy to be the new veterinarian on Molokai, at the Molokai Humane Society. I graduated from Iowa State University and have been a veterinarian for over 25 years. I have done the largest part of my veterinary work in Alaska, but have also worked in Iowa, Washington and Arkansas. My Alaska home is in the Brooks Range- Chandalar Lake. In Alaska I travelled to remote villages and was known as the Alaska Bush Vet. I also owned and operated a dog sled business in Denali National Park until 2015. Doing veterinary work I often travelled by dog team and my children ran many of the dog sled races, including the iditarod.

My veterinary career includes large and small animal care- dogs, cats, horses, pigs, goats, cows, etc. I am excited that all of these animals are present here on Molokai. I am also trained in high volume spay neuter as well as other surgeries. I have done over 100,000 surgeries and am looking forward to providing these skills here.
A lot about Molokai reminds me of Alaska- except the weather. If you see me standing with a smile I’m probably thinking about the cold I won’t be experiencing this winter.

Dr. Eric Jayne is always keeping busy.  To find out what he’s been up to recently, click HERE.

Lead Vet Technician

staff-maheaMy name is Mahealani, and I was raised on the East End of Molokai, but now reside in Hoolehua. I’m in a loving relationship with Nathaniel Lucas and we have a wonderful 6 year old, Evan Lucas.

I’ve always had a love for pets, so when I was given the opportunity to work for a Vet Clinic in Oahu, I took it. I gained much knowledge and technical skills working at the Animal Clinic of Honolulu. Having acquired those skills, I wanted to come home and share what I had learned with the people of Molokai. I was lucky enough that the Molokai Humane Society accepted me into their family. I hope to give continuous care and love to all animals, and to share what I have learned over the years with everyone.

Vet Technician

staff-kathyKathy is born and raised on the Island of Molokai (also an identical twin), and is a passionate and dedicated sustainable hunter and farmer. Years of hands on experience, has given her a wealth of knowledge on animal care and also the needs of the people on Molokai. Currently Kathy is the proud owner of 15 dogs, 7 cats, 1 horse, chickens, pigs, and her newest addition – a baby deer! She brings her passion for animals to the Molokai Humane Society, and uses her ties to the Community to be one of our biggest animal advocates.

Executive Director

hoalaMy name is Hoala and I was born and raised on the Island of Molokai, and moved to Washington State while pursuing a BA in Classics at the University of Puget Sound. After 8 years in Washington, I returned to Molokai and have immersed myself with various non-profits, volunteer work, and of course my family and pets. All of my animals are rescues, with four dogs, two cats, and a rotation of fostering animals. My three children and husband are huge supporters for the betterment of animals on Molokai, and provide extra hands when necessary. Returning to the Islands has given me a lot of perspective on the huge need for better education, animal advocacy, and pet health and care on Molokai. Having an amazing staff to work with, a great board of directors, and the great work we accomplish, is what brings me through the Molokai Humane Society doors every day.

Humane Communications Producer

My name is Kayla.  I was born on Oahu, moved around for a long time before my family came to Molokai in 2007.  Molokai

is the only place I’ve ever been long enough to settle down, and I feel lucky to be able to call this island my home.  My duties for the Molokai Humane Society revolve around our graphic and media needs including designing pamphlets, website development, social media communication and more. After I graduated high school in 2012, I attended UH Manoa where I trained for a career in graphic and media production in the Academy for Creative Media program.  I recently moved back to my home of Molokai where I plan on completing my final semester and receive my Bachelors in Creative Media.

I am the newest member of the Molokai Humane Society family, and loving every minute of it!
